Latest Malayalam movie ‘Aami’ earned Rs 0.001 crore total box office collection in first weekend. Directed by south Indian filmmaker Kamal, the Malayalam language film received very less response from people in various multiplexes and cinema halls situated in major cities of Kerala. Featuring Manju Warrier in leading roles, the south Indian movie witnessed occupancy in the range of 4 to 5%.
The Mollywood movie, which also features Murali Gopy, Tovino Thomas, and Anoop Menon in the supporting roles, released on average number of screens on 9th February 2018. Akshay Kumar’s Hindi movie ‘PadMan’ also released on the same date. Facing clash with the Bollywood movie, ‘Aami’ film struggled hard to attract maximum audiences in the theatres.
Kamal’s directorial not only competed against Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor starrer Hindi film but also faced box office competition with adjacently released Malayalam movies. Based on the life of famous poet and author Kamala Das, the newly released Malayalam language film has been receiving dull response from the moviegoers in opening weekend.
Releasing on February 9, the movie did not receive huge response from the audience. Public response did not increase on Saturday, which was the film’s second day of release. Occupancy in the cinema halls was expected to rise on Sunday, but it didn’t. Public response remained steady throughout the weekend and did not culminate on 3rd day of the movie’s release.
The biographical Malayalam movie didn’t earn a single penny in international market as it did not release in the foreign countries. Filmmakers did not release the movie in overseas thinking that Hollywood films will catch highest attention of film-watchers and their film won’t earn any monetary profit at worldwide box office.
On 15th February 2018, ‘Aami’ is about to complete one week in the cinema halls. The film is getting poor response in theatres. The public response is expected to drop gradually by the end of first week. Latest box office figures are awaited.
